Realtors Continue Support For Hawaii Opera Theatre

Realtors for Opera celebrate their 12th anniversary during this 2014 -2015 season of Hawaii Opera Theatre productions. The group was a sponsor of the final opera of the season, Gilbert and Sullivan’s “The Mikado,” scheduled for June 13 and 15, 20 and 22 at the Blaisdell Center Concert Hall.

The season continues with Madame Butterfly in October 2014, then Flying Dutchman in February, Siren Song in March, and Sweeney Todd in April of 2015.

Currently, the Realtors for Opera group consists of 32 members of the Hawaii real estate profession, 11 of whom are shown in the photo taken at a reception on the Concert Hall Lanai preceding the Mikado dress rehearsal.

Realtors for Opera founder Christine O’Brien explains that, by becoming a “sponsor” of an opera, Realtors for Opera participants receive recognition in every program of every opera throughout the season and are invited to a complimentary reception, backstage tour, and dress rehearsal for the opera they sponsor. In addition, Realtors for Opera is acknowledged in the supertitles above the stage.

O’Brien noted that she was inspired by the successful support of Hawaii Opera Theatre by the Physicians Opera Group and Lawyers for Opera when she founded Realtors for Opera in 2002. Subsequently Architects for Opera, Accountants for Opera, and Dentists for Opera were formed.

Realtor Maggie Walker, who serves on the HOT Board of Directors with O’Brien, has also been active in promoting participation among Hawaii Association of Realtors members. “It is really fun and very satisfying to work with my real estate colleagues in the Realtors for Opera group. Chris and I certainly appreciate all their support, and so does Hawaii Opera Theatre, We have a wonderful line-up of operas for 2014 and 2015 and hope more of our colleagues will be joining our group during the season,” Walker said.
