An Unparalleled Setting

It’s one of the highest profile estates in Hawaii and still referred to as “the Kaiser Estate,” although it has been bought and sold numerous times since it was the home of Henry J. Kaiser 50 years ago.
After the original seven acre plus property was subdivided into four lots, the main house where Kaiser lived was demolished by the purchaser of the nearly two acre lot it occupied.
The remaining three lots, which can be purchased separately or together for $80,000,000 – currently the highest price tag on any residential property in Hawaii — have been listed by Realtor Mary Worrall, president and principal broker of
Mary Worrall Associates Sotheby’s International Realty.
“What has become the main house, previously the guest house, is located on Lot One with a total of 81,936 square feet and 265 linear feet of ocean frontage. The home, which is approximately 15,180 square feet, opens out to the gardens and a marble swimming pool at the edge of Maunalua Bay. The price is $28,000,000, fee simple,” Worrall said.
“Lot Two, the middle property, which the owner refers to as the Gazebo property, is 70,349 square feet with 175 linear feet of ocean frontage and available at $18,000,000. This is the area where Mrs. Kaiser’s poodle kennels were located and it has beautiful, big, nearly century old trees.

“The Boat House property, Lot Three, includes what we believe to be the only private harbor in the state. Kaiser dredged the channel through the coral and created access for large yachts which are able to enter through the 50 foot wide inlet and anchor under the house. The total ocean frontage is 265 linear feet, and the entire property is 82,805 square feet. The price for this lot is $34,000,000.
“I believe one of the main attractions of this beautiful ocean-front estate is its association with Henry Kaiser, one of the great industrialists of the 20th century and the creator of Hawaii Kai. He chose the Portlock property for his own home while he was developing the master-planned community across the highway.
“According to a business associate of the time, Kaiser visited another associate who lived in Portlock while he was still conceptualizing the new development and was captivated by the setting with its backdrop of majestic Koko Crater and expansive views of the ocean, the east Oahu coastline, and Diamond Head across Maunalua Bay. Certainly decisions were made here that impacted the future of Hawaii…so this truly is a historic estate.”
Worrall is showing the property by appointment only.
