Realtor Enlists Colleagues In Animal Rescue Project

Best Friends Society Animal Network Hawaii Go Local Team Leader Dennis Lubrano, a Realtor Associate with RE/MAX Honolulu, continues his campaign to enlist other real estate agents in the mission of helping animals in need. He has recently created a new group, Realtors For Best Friends, because he believes the real estate community is in a good position to carry out this mission due to their sheer numbers and ability to network with each other.

“One of the reasons I created the new group was to reach my colleagues in the real estate industry and help them realize the potential they have in their vast numbers to begin with… then focus that strength to assist animals in need in all sorts of ways in all sorts of places,” Lubrano said.

“As Realtors we understand that it’s not just people who have been affected by the subprime crisis…animals are the innocent victims of the ongoing fallout. When people who are pet owners lose their home through foreclosure or have to go to a short sale, they will probably become renters…and only a small percentage of rentals are pet-friendly. Their animals often end up in shelters, and the shelters are becoming more and more crowded…a good reason for rescuing or adopting your next pet.

“Perhaps the realty company you are with might like to become a sponsor for an adoption event, pet food drive, or rescue volunteer day in your area. Maybe create a fund-raising campaign which deals with real estate yet raises money for animals in need. Maybe help by building pet housing or kennels or a cattery or aviary for one of the rescue shelters.

“Any kind of press is good press to familiarize people with your name or company and show them how much you care about animals in need and get them as enthused as you are so they too can get involved.

“Real estate people are creative people…just start thinking out of the box. We are also good communicators and networkers…let’s take advantage of the opportunities offered by all the new social media that many of us are now utilizing.”
