Oceanfront Options – The North Shore – Waimea

By the time the winter big wave surfing competitions conclude at the famous beaches of Oahu’s North Shore, visitors and competitors from all parts of the world will have been exposed to the energy and ambiance of this unique part of Hawaii. Many have purchased their own personal “piece of paradise,” contributing to the diversity of the North Shore communities.

North Shore real estate has continued to appreciate dramatically over the past three decadess. Homes along the stretch of coastline between Kahuku and Kaena Point range from “beach shacks” to multi-million dollar estates and condominium developments. Kamaaina families have continued to maintain both primary and secondary residences on the North Shore, and companies such as Billabong, Hurley, and Volcom have purchased properties in choice beachfront locations. Commercial development is concentrated primarily in Haleiwa Town, where several new commercial projects have just been completed. Despite the extensive media exposure and the increase in upscale residential real estate development, the North Shore of Oahu continues to resist excesses of urban encroachment and retain its country atmosphere.

One of the most famous locations on the North Shore is Waimea Bay, where surfers from around the world gather during winter months to ride the big waves and enter the annual surfing competitions.

Just around the corner from Waimea Bay and Beach Park, headed northward, is the little-known, virtually private Three Tables Beach. Overlooking this unique coastal area is a luxurious architect-designed home with its own access trail to the sandy beach below.

Listed by Keller Williams Honolulu at $3,600,000, the 3,245 square-foot, five-bedroom, five-bath home is situated on a 6,000-square-foot, R-5 zoned, fee simple lot with stunning ocean and coastal views.

Designed by architect Chris Molen, the single family residence was built in 1974 and remodeled in 2007. Design features include vaulted ceilings and an oversized lanai. Listing real estate agent Erik Taniguchi said great attention to detail was taken during the renovation, which included the use of “superior materials” such as 3/4-inch thick stucco, teak and walnut cabinets, and ironwood roof shingles.

Other features include split AC, ceiling fans, all kitchen and laundry appliances, a security system, gated access from Kamehameha Highway, and a 2-car garage.

The owner of the home refers to the property as “Three Tables Beach Estate,” Taniguchi said. “From the residence and the outdoor deck you have a clear view of the distinctive reef formations that give the beach its name.”
