Oceanfront Options – The North Shore – Kawailoa

By the time the winter big wave surfing competitions conclude at the famous beaches of Oahu’s North Shore, visitors and competitors from all parts of the world will have been exposed to the energy and ambiance of this unique part of Hawaii. Many have purchased their own personal “piece of paradise,” contributing to the diversity of the North Shore communities.

North Shore real estate has continued to appreciate dramatically over the past three decadess. Homes along the stretch of coastline between Kahuku and Kaena Point range from “beach shacks” to multi-million dollar estates and condominium developments. Kamaaina families have continued to maintain both primary and secondary residences on the North Shore, and companies such as Billabong, Hurley, and Volcom have purchased properties in choice beachfront locations. Commercial development is concentrated primarily in Haleiwa Town, where several new commercial projects have just been completed. Despite the extensive media exposure and the increase in upscale residential real estate development, the North Shore of Oahu continues to resist excesses of urban encroachment and retain its country atmosphere.

Up the coast from Haleiwa town, past the famous surf spots of Laniakea and Chun’s Reef, is the very private beachfront community of Kawailoa. Here an elegant two-story, five-bedroom, six-bath home is being offered at $3,988,000 by veteran real estate agent Joel Cavasso of Elite Pacific Properties.

Owned by a kamaaina family, the home was built in 1953 and extensively renovated in 2006 to the point that it appears to be new. Situated on 9,588 square feet of fee simple, R-5-zoned land, the home is a spacious 2,983 square feet and includes a guest or maid’s quarters with a separate entrance, as well as a children’s loft with play area and bathroom. Its Balinese-themed interior features elegant wood finishes and large picture windows for viewing nearby surf spots and the spectacular sunsets the North Shore is known for.

Amenities include central air conditioning, blinds, drapes, ceiling fans, chandeliers, intercom, security system, washer and dryer, and Wolf and SubZero kitchen appliances.

Cavasso, a top-producing agent who has specialized in oceanfront properties for many years, said, “The level, landscaped lot has 150 linear feet of incredible ocean frontage protected from the ocean by a sturdy seawall built in 1950. The luxurious sandy beach right in front of the home offers privacy for hundreds of yards on either side. This home is a natural for hosting family and friends, graduation parties and birthdays, as the current owners have done through the years. This is a one-of-a-kind luxury beachfront property.”
