Locations Neighborhood Experts Reveal Honolulu’s Trick-or-Treating Hot Spots

With Halloween falling on a Wednesday this year, planning ahead is key to stress-free trick-or-treating. To follow, Locations Neighborhood Experts share their tips for a bountiful (and safe) Halloween!

KAPOLEI

Lots of young families, well-designed neighborhoods and plenty of smooth sidewalks make Kapolei the west side’s No. 1 Halloween hot spot.

MILILANI

Mililani Mauka is known for generous helpings of candy and its kid-friendly sidewalks. However, traffic can be heavy, as Mililani Mauka’s reputation for a trick-or-treat destination has grown, so plan accordingly.

NORTH SHORE

According to Waialua resident Joe Segal, Kukea Circle is a local favorite, featuring plenty of participating homes and decked-out trick-or-treaters.

KANEOHE

One long-time Kaneohe resident suggests “Christmas Lane” in the Ahuimanu neighborhood (and be sure to go back at Christmas time for wow-worthy lights).

NUUANU

Many trick-or-treaters have their go-to spots in Nuuanu, where homeowners are known to go all out to create an extra-special Halloween experience. Dowsett Avenue is a popular street with fabulous decorations, great candies — and if you’re lucky, live music and pupus!

MANOA

With its history of spooky tales (Night Marchers — warrior spirits — are said to pass through the Manoa Falls trail), friendly residents and ‘boo-tifully’ decorated homes, Manoa is known across the island as a trick-or-treating destination.

KAHALA

The famous “Candy Man” of Onaha Street has been drawing residents from surrounding neighborhoods to Kahala for years. The self-described “Santa Claus of Halloween” gives away 3,000 to 5,000 pounds of candy each year (enough to fill a shipping container!). Rumor has it 2018 may be the last year he goes all out, so if you’ve never experienced Kahala’s Halloween offerings, this might be the year to go. Locations agent Travis McGaughy suggests Elepaio and Kolohala streets, too.

EAST OAHU

According to Locations agent Shawn Baker, homeowners in Wailupe Circle go “all out” with Halloween decorations. Aina Haina is also consistently named one of Oahu’s best and safest trick-or-treating neighborhoods.

Nearby Kuliouou, Kalani Iki and Niu Valley also got rave reviews. McGaughy recommends Kupaua Place for treats and Halemaumau Place for a spooky haunted house.

HAWAII KAI

Our experts claimed several trick-or-treating hot spots in Hawaii Kai. Baker suggests Koko Head Terrace, near the Hawaii Kai Library. Other Hawaii Kai neighborhoods of note include: Mariner’s Cove, Hahaione, Spinnaker Isle and Kalama Valley, for their generous treat bags and well-lit, safe sidewalks.
