The Gold Coast

A relatively small neighborhood in terms of area – approximately two acres – The Gold Coast comprises a concentration of some of Hawaii’s most prized residential real estate. Development of the mile-long oceanfront strip between San Souci Beach and Makalei Beach Park that became known as The Gold Coast began in the 1950s. Today the neighborhood consists of 16 apartment buildings, three hotels, two private clubs, and a few single family homes with ocean frontage. Making the location even more desirable is 400-acre Kapiolani Park on the other side of Kalakaua Avenue.

The Gold Coast’s 16 residential buildings include approximately 825 apartments and an estimated population of nearly 1,240. Don Persons owner of Gold Coast Real Estate in the New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel and a resident of the Kainalu -buildings located at opposite ends of the strip –points out that the Gold Coast is a neighborhood that can’t be duplicated, contributing to its desirability and exclusivity.

“In addition to a wide sandy beach within walking distance and several surf breaks out front, there are tennis courts, jogging paths, children’s play areas, picnic grounds, and other recreational opportunities in the park. We’re at the edge of Waikiki with all its dining, shopping, and entertainment options.

“This is a neighborhood that hasn’t changed much in six decades and probably won’t change in the forseeable future except for upgrades. Remodeling is ongoing at many of the buildings and apartments, a case in point being the 60-year-old building I’ve lived in for the past 14 years where we have recently rebuilt the seawall and foundation. Also, what was previously two apartments has been transformed into a luxury penthouse recently listed by Trinity Properties.”

The completely remodeled penthouse that tops the eight-story Kainalu is a spacious 2,478 square feet overlooking an ocean and coastal panorama extending from Diamond Head to Waianae.

“This fabulous home is a Gold Coast experience unlike any other,” said Trinity Properties Principal Broker and listing agent Annie Kwock. “Designed with an open floor plan to capture views from sunrise to sunset, this exquisitely appointed corner apartment sits directly above the turquoise sea and rolling surf. Two units were combined to create this amazing new home with three bedrooms, the possibility of a fourth, four luxurious baths, and a gourmet kitchen. The expansive main living and dining area opens to the spectacular views through disappearing walls of glass. High-end finishes and detailing include koa cabinetry, marble and onyx surfaces, travertine and koa flooring, a wet bar, spa. and so much more. This home in the sky offers the ultimate in Hawaiian living with all the conveniences of city life just steps away.”

Kwock noted that the building has FOB entry, two elevators, a resident manager, and underground parking entered from Coconut Avenue. The Kainalu is located at 2801 Coconut Avenue at the top of Kalakaua.

The Kainalu penthouse is priced at $4,995,000 inclusive of two assigned and covered parking spaces in the building. Kwock is showing the Penthouse (8B and 8C) by appointment and at open houses. For information, contact Annie Kwock at 808-780-4444 or annie@trinityproperties.com.
