Excellence In Interior Design Honored

“We were overwhelmed with the quality and volume of the entries we received for this year’s ASID Design Excellence Awards,” said Michele D’Amico ASID of d’Amico Design Group, President of the Hawaii Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers. “The 2009 competition attracted 26 projects, which were entered in various categories in residential and commercial divisions. The judges had their work cut out for them. With so many wonderful projects to review, they had a difficult time deciding the overall grand winner. They deliberated for almost an hour trying to break the tie between three projects. In the end it was decided that all three would share the honor.”

D’Amico noted that the theme of this year’s awards reception and presentation, held at the Pacific Club, was “Coming Together.” “Our intention was to highlight the concept of sharing, as well as to honor all our members, not just the award winners. We have also rededicated ourselves to the mission of educating the public about the value of working with a professional interior designer. Anyone planning to remodel, renovate, build or buy a new home can save countless hours and, therefore, dollars by working with design professionals…they can also avoid costly mistakes in the selection of finishes and furnishings. In line with our emphasis on consumer education, we will be participating in the BIA Home Building & Remodeling Show January 29 to 31 at Blaisdell Center and offering free consultations.”

Entries in the 2009 ASID Hawaii Chapter design competition were judged by a panel consisting of Rici Guild ASID of RCI Interiors, Joan Riggs ASID from Chaminade University, Nancy Peacock ASID of Nancy Peacock AIA, Inc., and Brett Hartle AIA of Kober Hanssen Mitchell.
