“A Haven in the Heights†– Na Pali Haweo

Henry Kaiser’s vision for his Hawaii Kai development was a new community that would encompass virtually all home styles in a variety of settings. The masterplan laid out neighborhoods with single-family homes, townhomes, and multi-story condominiums in the valleys, on the hillsides, throughout the newly created marina, and along the ridges.
The three ridgeline neighborhoods, Mariner’s Ridge, Kamehame Ridge, and Na Pali Haweo, were developed on primarily raw land over a period of approximately three decades starting in the 70s with access roads and infrastructure. The three new neighborhoods were designed to maximize views for the homes, which were planned to cover a range of price points from moderate to upscale. Most homes would have ocean views, some spectacular panoramas extending from Diamond Head to Koko Crater and Neighbor Islands across the channel.
Topping Kamehame Ridge is the Na Pali Haweo luxury home community, a subdivision of 193 lots that extends up the ridgeline to reach the highest point at approximately 700 feet. The panoramic view from Na Pali Haweo embraces ocean and mountains, Kalama and Kamiloiki Valleys, Hawaii Kai, Koko Head, and, dominating the landscape, majestic Koko Crater, peaking at nearly 1,200 feet.
Since sales began in 1991, custom homes have been built on most of the lots, which are a minimum of 10,000 square feet. Eight lots remain vacant. Buyers are required to observe architectural and landscaping criteria overseen by the home owners association, ensuring that the quality of the neighborhood is maintained and view channels are protected. Also under the purview of the association are a neighborhood security patrol and community park at the entrance to Na Pali Haweo on Kamehame Drive.
A luxury home in a choice location…a rim lot on the southeastern side of the hill…has recently been listed by Realtor Sean K. Lopez of Elite Pacific Properties. At 600 feet above sea level, the home commands spectacular, unobstructed views of the ocean and coastline. Designed with an open floor plan, the spacious 2,725-square-foot interior is augmented by approximately 1,500 square feet of outdoor lanais and decks. Main living areas on the first level of the two-story structure flow seamlessly out to the lanai with its free form infinity-edge swimming pool.
“This home offers primarily single level living with a master suite, kitchen, and dining area on the ground floor, while most ridge homes follow the contour of the land making stairs a necessity to access important features. There are no steps throughout the entire entry level, including garage to house and house to pool deck.”
Lopez pointed out that the unique, thoughtful design is complemented by luxury finishes throughout. Large sliding glass doors and high ceilings contribute to the open, airy ambiance. The cool weather of the higher elevation limits the need for air conditioning, which is available, but generally ceiling fans are sufficient to circulate fresh air.
“Among the unique features of this home is that the owner built it with toxin-free materials,” Lopez said. “Floors, cabinets, and doors are fabricated with solid Cumaru wood…no laminates or other synthetics were used. The swimming pool water is purified with a copper ion exchange system and contains no chlorine or salt. A six-inch organic soil base under the yard limits the need for watering and fertilizer use.
“Although the owner started developing the property in 2008, it was only recently completed. A new owner will be moving into a virtually brand new home that has never before been occupied.”
Located at 1035 Hoa Street, the home is listed at $3,078,000 and shown by appointment. For more information or to arrange a showing, contact Realtor and listing agent Sean Lopez at cell (808) 772-1405 or email Sean@ElitePacific.com or go to Alohasean.com.
