Builders of our communities

The Building Industry Association of Hawaii (BIA) and National Kitchen and Bath Association Aloha Chapter (NKBA) honored winners of the 2019 Building Industry Design and Construction Awards (BIDCA) and NKBA Design competitions at a gala held at the Royal Hawaiian Resort Waikiki on Oct. 11.
The competition is open to residential and commercial projects, both new construction and remodeled, submitted by contractors, developers, architects and designers. Entry categories included Residential Remodeling, Certified Aging in Place Remodeling, Commercial Remodeling, New Residential, New Commercial, Outdoor Living, Details, LEED Certified, Historical, and Kitchen and Bath.
The Overall Grand Award winner in the New Commercial category was the Hoakalei Country Club Clubhouse submitted by Peter Vincent Architects. The design of the new clubhouse carries out the theme of the project’s name, “reflections of a lei,” with floral and water patterns in details, furnishings, and decor. Raynor Hawaii Overhead Doors and Gates won a Grand Award in the Commercial Details category for the Hoakalei Country Club Doors. Peter Vincent Architects also received a Grand Award in the Condominium/Apartment
Residential Remodeling category for its Tonggs Beach Condo project (see photo).
The Carl Reppun award for excellence in remodeling went to Moorhead and Company for creativity and attention to detail in several projects. Established in memory of Carl Reppun, the first chairman of the BIA Renaissance Remodeling Awards, this award is presented annually to a small to medium size builder. The company received a Grand Award for Residential Details, Moroccan Oasis; a Grand Award, Condominium/Apartment Residential Remodeling up to $200,000, Ross Condo Remodel; and a Grand Award Residential Remodeling up to $200,000, M.
