Developer helps make dream of homeownership a reality

Wyeth M. Matsubara
Chief Operating Officer for The Park on Ke‘eaumoku and Vice President of Nan, Inc.

After making a bold career move from practicing law to development and construction, Wyeth M. Matsubara is focused on his passion for helping potential homeowners realize their housing dreams.

While he initially made a positive impact on the local community as a lawyer, Wyeth Matsubara credits a “development intervention” for leading him to pursue his passion for real estate development and construction.

In 2015, after two decades of practicing law at various levels and learning from experts in the field including Judge James. S. Burns, Matsubara developed a passion for land use and solving problems to help others. He joined Nan, Inc. to focus on building the development arm of the company and explains that there are five development projects currently in the works, including residential, commercial and industrial endeavors.

“This is an exciting time in which we find historically low interest rates, pent-up capital from COVID-19, and Hawai‘i’s historically strong housing demands and shortage of housing inventory; these factors are helping to push for a strong housing market in Hawai‘i,” Matsubara says. “All of the developments around town bring their own unique features that meet each family’s needs, which is important in that there is a variety of choices being offered.”

Matsubara explains that The Park on Ke‘eaumoku represents an “amazing opportunity” to revitalize an underutilized site that is conveniently located in the bustling central Honolulu corridor, near the historic neighborhoods of Makiki and Punahou, and within walking distance of Ala Moana Center and many renowned restaurants and shops.

The Park is an exemplary mixed-use development with a substantial commercial component offering dining and business options to mesh with the residential component and needs of the surrounding community. The Park also provides 43,310 square feet of open space, which will be highlighted by approximately half an acre of useable park that extends along Ke‘eaumoku Street that will be open to the public as a welcomed reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding Kapi‘olani Boulevard and King Street thoroughfares. The unit price points are sure to draw the interest of local families looking for great value and something to be proud of for years to come.

When he’s not busy helping to run Nan Inc., Hawai‘i’s largest locally owned construction company, and managing The Park on Ke‘eaumoku, Matsubara enjoys watching his daughters, Taylor and Lauren, play soccer, and cooking something delicious on the grill with his wife, Christy.

“Creating and developing a project is amazing, but it’s working with people in all aspects – design, building, opposing, supporting – that keeps me extremely motivated to be where I am,” Matsubara says.
