Oceanfront Options – The Leeward Coast – Makaha
Oceanfront property – whether it meets the sea with sandy beach or rocky shoreline – is by nature scarce, and consequently commands premium price points. Currently some of the best options for buyers and investors whose priority is ocean frontage can be found on Oahu’s Leeward Coast … and a full range of property types, from condos and single family homes to vacant land, is available.
Near the northern end of the Leeward Coast is a small community of homes that is the last residential area before the virtually unpopulated expanse of countryside leading to the nature preserve Kaena Point.
It is located just past world-famous Makaha Beach, and is where Corwin & Associates is offering a kamaaina-style fee-simple home with six bedrooms and two full baths for $849,999.
The home sits on 11,449 square feet of flat, all-usable land, and has access to the ocean via rights of way on both sides of the property directly across the street.
Listing agent Maria Ota said the home has “a picturesque setting that includes coconuts trees, mango and kukui nut trees, plumeria and banana plants and a large landscaped yard, settled in front of an imposing mountain,” as well as views of the ocean from its large covered lanai.
“You can look out toward the ocean and enjoy a cup of coffee or a meal on this huge deck while soaking in the presence of serenity,” she said.
Inside the home is an open layout for the kitchen, dining and living rooms, which is just “waiting for your design and layout to make it your own,” said Ota.
The home also features ceiling fans, driveways on both sides of the property, a large high-ceiling garage ideal for several cars or storing a boat, and an unfinished room adjacent to the garage that could be used as a studio or a shed.
The many bedrooms, said Ota, make it ideal for a large or extended family, or for anyone who might need a room or two for office space. The large yard, in turn, is an ideal play area for children.
Ota said the original owner and his family moved onto the property in 1967. They built a new home in 1983, and renovated and remodeled in 2007.
“The owner was in the U.S. Air Force and worked at Kaena Point Tracking Station,” she said. “He always played ukulele and sang his favorite songs at gatherings with family and friends. They also went pole fishing, scuba diving, snorkeling and gathering limu from the reefs.”
Ota added that some of the best fishing off Oahu is along the Leeward Coast, and the Waianae Boat Harbor is just minutes away from this Makau Street property.
“Launch out and go get the fish,” she said.
Other amenities in the area include schools, a golf course, shopping centers and medical facilities.
Ota said she is hosting an open house for the property today from 2 to 5 p.m. For more information, call Ota at (808) 357-4973 or email mho5775@outlook.com.
