Oceanfront Options – The North Shore – Laniakea

By the time the winter big wave surfing competitions conclude at the famous beaches of Oahu’s North Shore, visitors and competitors from all parts of the world will have been exposed to the energy and ambiance of this unique part of Hawaii. Many have purchased their own personal “piece of paradise,” contributing to the diversity of the North Shore communities.

North Shore real estate has continued to appreciate dramatically over the past three decadess. Homes along the stretch of coastline between Kahuku and Kaena Point range from “beach shacks” to multi-million dollar estates and condominium developments. Kamaaina families have continued to maintain both primary and secondary residences on the North Shore, and companies such as Billabong, Hurley, and Volcom have purchased properties in choice beachfront locations. Commercial development is concentrated primarily in Haleiwa Town, where several new commercial projects have just been completed. Despite the extensive media exposure and the increase in upscale residential real estate development, the North Shore of Oahu continues to resist excesses of urban encroachment and retain its country atmosphere.

An oceanfront home with a substantial 9,320 square feet of land is currently available at Laniakea, one of the North Shore’s famous surfing beaches.

Offered by Hawaii Homes International at $3,495,000, the property comprises a single family home with three bedrooms and two-and-a-half baths, a guest cottage, and studio apartment. The main house looks out over a long sandy beach and is separated from the cottage and the studio by a large manicured lawn.

Listing Realtor Ralph Gray said the home resembles a “Cape Cod cottage with modern upgrades.” Built in 1941, it was completely remodeled in 2013, then updated in 2016.

The fee simple property has a direct view of the Laniakea surf break, as well as expansive views of the ocean and sunsets.

“You can walk down the beach to Haleiwa on two miles of white sand,” Gray noted. “The area is great for snorkeling in the summer and surfing in the winter.”

Amenities of the home include custom European windows and doors, handcrafted mahogany hardwoods, travertine stone and bamboo, split AC, ceiling fans, kitchen and laundry appliances, and an outdoor shower on the beach side of the main house. An outdoor deck, protected from the wind, adds space for dining and enjoying the views. The property is fully fenced with an electric privacy gate at the entrance; up to six cars can be parked inside the gate. A permitted underground erosion barrier along the beach protects the property from sand loss.

“The one-bedroom cottage with kitchen is ideal for guests, but could be used as a vacation rental,” Gray said. “The studio apartment located off the garage also has kitchen facilities. Both the cottage and studio have their own decks. The grassy lawn and tropical plants contribute to the privacy and country feel of the property.”
