Oceanfront Options — The North Shore

By the time the winter big wave surfing competitions conclude at the famous beaches of Oahu’s North Shore, visitors and competitors from all parts of the world will have been exposed to the energy and ambiance of this unique part of Hawaii. Many have purchased their own personal “piece of paradise,” contributing to the diversity of the North Shore communities.
North Shore real estate has continued to appreciate dramatically over the past three decadess. Homes along the stretch of coastline between Kahuku and Kaena Point range from “beach shacks” to multi-million dollar estates and condominium developments. Kamaaina families have continued to maintain both primary and secondary residences on the North Shore, and companies such as Billabong, Hurley, and Volcom have purchased properties in choice beachfront locations. Commercial development is concentrated primarily in Haleiwa Town, where several new commercial projects have just been completed. Despite the extensive media exposure and the increase in upscale residential real estate development, the North Shore of Oahu continues to resist excesses of urban encroachment and retain its country atmosphere.
Home to some of the North Shore’s best surfing waves, Haleiwa has in recent years become the focus of most of the commercial development in the area, particularly the historic town center.
Just west of Haleiwa Alii Beach Park, and within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and the Haleiwa Boat Harbor, a legal duplex oceanfront home with a rare vacation rental license is being offered by Team Real Estate Inc. for $1,895,000.
The property is located in a kamaaina neighborhood at the western end of Pikai Street close to public schools serving students of all grade levels, churches, community services, and easy access to the H-1 freeway to Honolulu. However, the primary attraction for prospective buyers and renters is the opportunity to enjoy the experience of beach living and unobstructed ocean views extending from Cape Kaiaka and Kaena Point in the west to Puaena Point at the tip of Waialua Bay to the northeast. The beach directly in front of the home is wide, long, and sandy.
Listing real estate agent Roberto Lopes said the duplex sits on 8,263 square feet of fee simple, R-5-zoned land and features 1,444 square feet of living space, plus a 303-square-foot lanai. One of the units has two bedrooms and one bath; the other, one bedroom and one bath. Both have separate entrances and private oceanfront decks.
Previously owned by a commercial fisherman who is retiring on Hawaii Island, the home was built in 1962 and remodeled in 2015. The duplex is landscaped and fenced and has a two-car garage. Amenities include AC window units, cable TV, ceiling fans, kitchen and laundry appliances, and a security system.
Lopes said the owner is a motivated seller and willing to look at all reasonable offers. For more information or to arrange for a showing, contact Lopes at 637-3507 or roberto@hawaii.rr.com.
