There’s no place like home

With many of us staying at home more than ever, we are more aware of the value of a safe and stable home. It is more than a place for our things or to sleep — it provides a sense of security, platform for success and a home to build memories.

The Hawaii HomeOwnership Center (HHOC) believes home stability is critical for Hawaii’s families and communities. The organization supports this through its program to provide first-time buyers with education and individual support to prepare for the purchase process, then offer support after members buy a home to ensure ownership is sustainable.

HHOC also provides counseling for distressed renters and owners about their concerns at no charge. Confidential conversations include development of an action plan to access community resources, develop a crisis budget and other steps with the intention of sustaining housing.

Flavors of Neighbors is the annual gala HHOC coordinated to fundraise for its programs. As in-person events are not possible this year, the event was reinvented into an online ordering and pick up experience. A variety of culinary creations are still available through celebrated chefs, as well as a special selection of adult beverages. Holiday gift opportunities are offered, too.

The pickup experience is offered Nov. 29 through Dec. 5. Sponsorships and individual orders are available today.

During a time when we are spending so much time at home, a chef prepared meal would be a wonderful holiday gift for friends or family. Send a gift to a friend via a virtual gift card or a pre-ordered lunch or dinner through this fundraiser. You will be spreading holiday cheer while also providing support to a family seeking direction on their mortgage or rent situation. Local restaurants and companies needing business during a challenging time will also be supported through your orders.

HHOC hopes that through Flavors of Neighbors REINVENTED, more of our neighbors will have the security through a safe and stable home.
