What’s Cooking At The BIA

Industry leaders including D.R. Horton, Hawaii Gas, and SSFM International proudly served dishes for legislators and guests.

At BIA-Hawaii’s annual Build a Better Bowl Competition and Legislative Night, held on March 12 at Café Julia, members got down to the business of tackling housing and development issues while preparing and serving dishes for event guests.

More than a hundred industry professionals and BIA members attended to sample food and meet with legislators. This year, cooking teams included SSFM International, Trade Publishing, D.R. Horton, aio Media, and Raynor Overhead Garage Doors, Hawaii Gas, and Daltile. The event was sponsored by Hawaii Gas.

Guests sampled dishes and voted for their favorites while discussing bills making their way through the current legislative session. Judges included Christopher Gee, Executive Chef of La Tour Café, Terry Kakazu, owner of HASR Bistro, and Jason Peel of Kapiolani Culinary Arts Program and Michel’s Colony Surf.

The cooking contest winners were Raynor Overhead Doors and Hawaii Home + Remodeling Magazine, which tied for first place. Daltile was voted second place and SSFM International, third place. The People’s Choice award, voted by hand ballots, went to D.R. Horton.
